Orange Juice IV
These pictures were taken on May 24, 2007. Zac and I were definately experiencing symptoms of allergies--especially burning eyes and occassional coughing. Because of this, we moved the specimen to the outside of the house on our window sill. As you can see it's looking very strong and healthy (or unhealthy if you're a human). As we examined it outside we noticed a squirrel scrounging through our trash. Zac decided to extract some of the orange juice/beer/vodka/mold and spray the squirrel with it. He succeeded.

Lotus Fields
"Wha-where am I?" the little boy stammered as he woke up. A sweet scent tickled his nose, of roses and spring and fresh rain, and as he looked around he saw beautiful flowers of red and blue and yellow and violet as far as the eye could see. And then his senses latched onto a deep, dark smell of toffee. He turned around to find a small patch of flowers, the likes of which he did not recognize. He bent down, nearly falling backwards as the smell overwhelmed him. Greed and desire swept over his mind as fast as the scent and without thinking the boy snatched one of the petals and ate it. Never had he tasted anything so delicious. He went to reach for another, but his eyelids drooped, and in a moment he fell into a deep sleep, all his memories erased.
THE MODERN THINGS
all the modern things
like cars and such
have always existed
they've just been waiting
in a mountain
for the right moment
listening to all the
irritating noises
of dinosaurs
and people
dabbling outside
all the modern things
have always existed
they've just been waiting
to come out
and multiply
and take over
it's their turn now

Orange Juice III
A lots happened since last week, and most importantly our orange juice mold colony is flourishing. Here are pictures from today, May 13. Zac and I relocated the specimen to the bar in the back of our living room because it had been irritating our allergies. Notice the formation that now goes deep below the surface. Also, the fluid is getting low in the glass, we may refill it this week.

Orange Juice II
The following pictures were taken on May 7, 2007. As you can see, our mold community has blossomed. Two now have large green spots on them. If you look closely at the side view you can see a large white 'haze.' We're not sure what this is. Both Zachary and I have noticed symptoms of allergies, but we cannot attribute this directly to the experiment. It is spring, after all.

Chess Boxing
All right, I just caught the tail-end of a SportsCenter segment and just had to look this up on wikipedia.
And, of course, it's on youtube.
A match between two opponents consists of up to eleven alternating rounds of boxing and chess sessions, starting with a four-minute chess round followed by two minutes of boxing and so on. Between rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The form of chess played is "blitz chess" in which competitors have a total of twelve minutes. Competitors may win by knockout, checkmate, a judge's decision or if their opponent's twelve minutes of chess time elapses.
And, of course, it's on youtube.

Richard Cheese
I first came across this guy in Dawn of the Dead. I liked the movie, and I especially liked his rendition of Down with the Sickness.

Some Quotes
Wasn't it Nelson Mandela who once said, "Quotes are for dummies?" Though true it may be, I enjoy finding the short clever things that people have said. There are quotes that everyone's heard, and then there are some that require a little digging. Here are a few of my favorites.
"The living man's dream is the dead man's life."
- Agnesë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu
"It's hard to fail at life. The standard's pretty low."
- Anna Eleanor Roosevelt
"Think long. Think hard. Don't think about last night."
- William Alston
"Only as corpses do we reach 100 percent efficiency."
- Nikolai Tesla

Robot Jox (Achilles versus Alexander)
Zac alerted me to this movie and insists that I watch it. Honestly, it looks awesome.

Orange Juice I
This speciman was born on April 20, 2007 as a screwdriver. Forgotton by a man who will remained unnamed, it remained on our livingroom table for well over a week and we intend to let it be until we move out a month from now. Sometime around the 25th of April enough of the contents had vanished that it was but half full. Zac remedied the situation by emptying a beer into it. Sometime around the 27th Zachary spilled some of its contents. There is a slight smell.
The following pictures were taken on May 1, 2007. I will post updates on any developments.
Also: Thanks much to my very generous sister who got me the camera with which these pictures were taken.
