Emily

Emily I had known in high school. Her attractiveness, at the time, was her pure innocence. Her playfulness, moderate shyness, and striking appearance made her appealing. I chased her briefly, and eventually got shut down. She was a year ahead of me, and after she graduated we fell out of contact.

Fast forward 4 years to now, where she has reinitiated contact. Admittedly I was somewhat excited at first. I was somehow saddened when I found out she had created a myspace website.

I have nothing against myspace, although after a brief stint on OKCupid have decided to avoid that route. I don’t need it. What makes me sad, now, is that I feel like I can clearly see what’s going on. Her childishness and innocence that serve her so well also happens to be her greatest enemy. After imagining a relationship with her I came to the conclusion that I would not be able to fill the emotional, perhaps parental hole that she has, and I doubt there are many who can.

She needs someone, but myspace just doesn’t seem… her. Having the site itself almost seems to put a kink in her armor of purity, but without the site her chances of meeting someone may not be too great. I’d really like to give her some advice, but I really have none to give. I have no solution for her situation.

More About this Project

I have interesting thoughts all the time, and it wasn’t until last summer that I realized that I was forgetting such a huge fraction of fascinating (to me, anyway) ideas only moments after I thought of them. That’s when I decided to keep a notebook around so I could jot short little phrases to remind me of different ideas. Here’s a series of things I have written down.

Fast Food

Busy college life is beginning to take its toll on me once again; especially in spring quarter where the light at the end of the tunnel begins to shine in, and keeping motivated becomes harder and harder. The first thing that always gets sacrificed when things get hectic is nutrition, and lately I’ve been eating out more than ever.

I feel as though my norm is eating out every other day, which I don’t think is too bad. Lately, though, I’ve been eating out almost exclusively. I must’ve eaten at Wendy’s 10 times over the past three weeks, and various other restaurants get thrown into the mix. Most of them are just as bad.

The money thing isn’t a big issue with me which is why I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, but now I’m actually starting to feel the affects. Lately I haven’t been feeling a hundred percent. That’s not to say I’m not the happy-go-lucky person I normally am, I just feel something not right in my tummy.

So I resolve to cut back and eat more nutritiously this coming quarter. Hell, let’s start tonight. My roommate Greg is making is signature baked ziti.

HipOppotamus

Today my roommate, Ed, and I decided to go shopping for some new threads. Eventually we ended up at DSW where I intended to buy a pair of brown sandals for spring and summer. I found those, but then an extremely cool pair of shoes caught my attention.

They’re a brand I hadn’t heard of, HipOppotamus, and supposedly they’re made in Italy. They’re so slick! I’m a big fan of nostalgia, and the first thing that I really thought of was bowling. It somehow captures that spirit of being on a local bowling team like in Married with Children or The Flintstones. The design, along with the shades of brown captures a mood.

They’re subtle though, and because they’re so sleek they’re easily overlooked. Upon further examination, though, one discovers just how cool these puppies are: Too Cool for School.

Not only that, but they are comfortable as hell, in a good way. I really wanted them at the store, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to drop another fifty bucks. When I tried them on, however, the light feel and snug fit sealed the deal.

I can say with confidence that I now own the hippest shoes.

Third Time's a Charm
